The last stretch of western Liguria, the extreme west, it borders with France. Ventimiglia, with the old city rich in treasures, has all the strengths and weaknesses of a typical frontier town. The stretch of coast to France is wild and full of Mediterranean vegetation: with the Hanbury Gardens, park of acclimatization for exotic plants, and the Cave of Red Leaps, where were found traces of prehistoric man around 20,000 years ago. In Ventimiglia begins Val Roja: after the tunnel near Airole, beautiful medieval town with a baroque church, all of a sudden you find yourself immersed in a landscape of the most beautiful parts of Liguria.
