The Sicilian folk tradition, like all folk traditions, is grounded in reality. The reality creates the myth that the path of history turns and merges with the legend, finding expression in song, in proverbs, poems and fairy tales. So that in the past everything that could not be explained rationally found its raison d’etre in tales and folk beliefs. The island of Pantelleria is a place of traditions and legends; located in the heart of the Mediterranean, closer to Africa than to Sicily. The daughter of a great volcano of the rift located between the Siclia and Africa about 300,000 years ago was born, and then goes back to tertiary education, as evidenced by its oldest rock, the phonolite. The feature is the wind that blows suddenly, especially from the south desert wind blowing in the hottest months, July and August.
