MERANO_2At the confluence of the Val Passiria upper valley of the Adige is the second largest city in the region, after Bolzano (formerly Meirania) which, by sec. XII, was owned by the Counts of Tyrol and capital of the county. The oldest, the right of the Passer river, has preserved the picturesque and charming medieval mark, while all around you have developed the newest neighborhoods, in a delightful position among parks and gardens. The mild climate and the presence of radioactive mineral springs have encouraged the development of the town as a holiday resort and care of worldwide renown. Considerable importance will also have the trade of fruits and wines and every year there is held the horse race of the Grand Prix of Merano.
